Historian and storyteller, Idris Evans will be giving a talk on the fascinating lives of the Welsh Drovers on Sunday, 17th October in St Edward's Church Hall, Knighton.
Idris grew up on a hill farm in Wales and some years ago was inspired to research the story of the Welsh Drovers. Droving cattle from Wales to London was a business that lasted about a thousand years until the arrival of the railways in the mid nineteenth century. Idris is a natural storyteller with his own engaging style and peppers his talks with anecdotes and humour. He vividly brings to life the Drovers' story.
The event, which is being organised by the Knighton & District Tourism Group, is at 2.45 pm for a 3.00 pm start and will be followed by tea, coffee and delicious homemade cakes. The inclusive price of £3.50 is payable on the day at the door.
We are pleased to announce the results of our first Summer Raffle. The funds raised will help the Group continue its activities promoting tourism for Knighton and its surrounding district. We're very grateful indeed to all the businesses and individuals mentioned below who generously donated the raffle prizes and we'd also like to thank everyone who supported our raffle by buying tickets.
We regret that, due to circumstances beyond its control, the Group was unable to be present at the Knighton Show as originally planned. Mayor Ken Harris drew the winning tickets at the Tower House Gallery instead. Local folk scooped the majority of prizes and the full list of prizewinners is as follows:
